About this Product
Speech sound sheets for Childhood Apraxia of Speech or the phonological process of Syllable Reduction - 8 pages, 128 words with pictures!
These are sorted into 1st syllable stress (6 pages) and 2nd syllable stress (2 pages) for ease.
Much thought (and time!) was put into collecting plentiful 3-syllable words and also in ordering the words from most likely easier to pronounce (syllables with single consonant + vowel) to more difficult to pronounce (syllables with consonant blends).
Children with apraxia of speech need to move! 3-syllable words and phrases are useful for improving motor planning skills as children attempt to imitate what they hear (usually with skilled tactile or gestural cues by a speech-language pathologist). Focus on vowel switching initially. Then worry about consonant production. If a child can produce the correct vowels in a multisyllabic word or in a phrase/sentence, that child is much more likely to be understood.
3-syllable words and phrases can be equally or more productive than targeting simple CVC words for correct articulation as we usually see these kiddos by the time they are 3-4 years old and already attempting sentences on their own (jargon, but they're trying!). Holding them back forever in CVC-word production is absolutely boring for these young ones - once they have some success readily switching vowels and hitting some consonant targets it is magic. Their self-confidence propels them during sessions rather than us therapists constantly having to bribe or make deals with kiddos to do their articulation drills. Drills become more meaningful this way. These 3-syllable words are just one tool in the tool bag. More to come!
We hope that these resources are beneficial for you or your loved one!
