I fell in love with this piece of moss agate the instant I saw it. The gorgeous color and texture is unlike any other sample I've seen and I couldn't wait to work with it! Sourced from India, this particular cabochon was hand-woven by me with a simple silver-plated wire.

Despite it's name, moss agate isn't technically an agate. Like agate, it is a variety of quartz chalcedony with the same chemical composition, but it lacks the defining concentric bands. The moss-like inclusions are oxides of often manganese or iron, with trace elements giving it a variety of colors.

Meet the Maker
Have you ever been fooled by a stone's trade name? My first crystal sphere was also my first experience with that conundrum. With the name Peruvian Turquoise, I thought I had come across a new type of turquoise that I hadn't seen before. After making the purchase, I did some research and discovered that this is actually a form of chrysocolla from Peru that got it's trade name simply due to it's similar appearance to genuine turquoise.
Since then, I have educated myself and vowed to always know what I am buying before I buy it. I now know how to tell the difference between fake/dyed stones, resin, glass, and stones sold under another name. Then, once I started my business, I vowed to never sell a stone under false pretenses or without knowing the true identity of the stone I was advertising.
When you purchase a piece from CroChels, you can rest assured that the research has been done and you are being sold a stone that has been tested in many ways to verify it's identity.
