About this Product

I would like you to meet Dimple! A happy handmade pumpkin decoration that is handmade with a real dried gourd! It's surprising to know that this folk art pumpkin began as a seedling on a farm, grown in the United States.

To make this fall table decoration I cut the tops off of dried gourds, clean out the middle, and carve the faces just as you would a fresh jack-o-lantern. Translucent paints and waxing show off the gorgeous shell of the gourd which feels wonderfully smooth to the touch. I like to dress my whimsical pumpkins in style, so I channel my inner Madd Hatter and create beautiful hats full of gorgeous autumn colors and textures. The brim of this hat has wire built-in, so you can have fun adjusting the wave and crinkle just so. Each pumpkin gourd is truly unique, with its own personality. I leave the inside unpainted because I think it's important to not forget the true nature of this pumpkin as a real vegetable!

Light them up! There's nothing better for your fall tabletop decor than to have lighted pumpkins around your home! Because I really don't enjoy walking around my house turning on all the lights of my fall pumpkin decorations and then having to turn them off at bed, this pumpkin comes with its own tealight candle with a timer! Turn on the timer setting around dusk. It stays on for about six hours, and turns off on its own! It's so wonderful when the pumpkins just light up as the sun is setting! You don't have to touch it again until the battery runs out and needs to be replaced.

Measurements
11 inches tall
9 inches wide at the brim of her hat
6 inches wide across her face
Includes a tealight candle with a timer!

Thank you for visiting the BoutiqueBarn,

Meet the Maker

Hello friends! My name is Christy and l welcome you to my shop :)

My first love was drawing with fire

The beautiful brown color in my artwork is created with pyrography, "drawing with fire". It is the perfect complement to the reclaimed wood that I use to create rustic home décor. I personally wood-burn each letter & all the artwork by hand, using pyrography tools.

The colors & textures found in & made by nature have always inspired me. I incorporate those elements into my designs, bringing the outside in! I seek out the wood to reclaim, piecing the colors & textures together to create a wonderfully rustic canvas. The weathered wood is lightly sanded down. Leaving much of the natural patina created by the outdoor elements over time. Slight cracks & nail heads are left "as is" for added rustic texture. Each piece is unique, with a rustic weathered finish that can only be found when using reclaimed wood.

My Second love is the wonderful dried gourd

Gourds are such a delight to work with. I purchase my dried gourds from farms in the United States. I cut off the tops and clean them out just as you would a fresh fall pumpkin. I carve them into fun gourd characters that you can light up with a battery-operated candle. Each gourd character has a name and a handmade hat to showcase their personality.

I also use the gourds to create decorative bowls, vases, and vessels. I use translucent paints as well as wood-burning techniques to decorate the gourds. Each gourd shape is unique, so each gourd piece is a one-of-a-kind!

How it’s Made

  • I purchase gourds grown in the United States
  • I cut the tops off, clean out the middle and carve the faces just as you would a fresh jack-o-lantern.
  • Painted and waxing shows off the gorgeous shell of the gourd which feels wonderfully smooth to the touch.
  • I make pumpkin hats from scratch. I use the gourd top as a base.
  • I collect lots of different fabrics for hats. I love to upcycle large coffee sacks, sometimes dying them to get the exact color I need.
  • I love textures, so I decorate the hats with lots of foliage, acorns, pinecones, and dried botanicals
  • I leave the inside unpainted because I think it's important to not forget the true nature of this pumpkin as a real vegetable!
  • Yes, they all have a name! I burn their name onto the back of the gourd which makes them even more fun to collect and gift to friends!

4. Do you make wall art for businesses? Yes! Decorating your business with rustic wall art creates a warm and inviting space for your customers and employees. I can recreate your logo or company mottos etc on reclaimed wood.

5. How do I hang my wall art? I attach a classic saw tooth hanger on the back for you to hang your piece.

6. Is the wood heavy? All the wood I use is real and solid. Depending on the type of wood, yes it can be very heavy. I would recommend a drywall screw to hand your piece on.

 GOURDS

Processing Time -

Finished Gourds -I ship your orders within 3-5 days of purchase.

Custom Gourds -I ship your orders within a few weeks.

1. Can I order a customized gourd character? Yes! I am happy to work with you on a personalized gourd for you. Just reach out and we can chat about your idea.

2. Can I order the hats separately? Not at this time. I actually use the gourd top to make the hat around. So the gourd top/hat fits the gourd exactly. I am contemplating making hats separately. Let me know if this might be a good idea... I'd love your input!

3. Can I use the gourds to decorate outside? These gourds are dried, but I wouldn't recommend letting them get wet with the weather elements. It's best to keep these as "indoor gourds".

4. Can I name my own gourd? Sure! If you would like to name a gourd just let me know. This would fall into a custom piece, so I would just need a week or so to create this gourd for you.

5. Is there additional charges for custom gourds? This depends on the request. Please just send me a note with your request and I can let you know.
