My name is Elaine Yurewich and I am an internationally known Polymer Clay artist. I love creating works of art in many forms and Polymer Clay allows me to experiment and put into a three-dimensional form, the continual ideas the swim through my head.
When I was introduced to Polymer Clay in 1992, I immediately saw the potential it had for me, back then I created little characters that I sold. It wasn’t until after a tragic accident in 2011, I lost the strength and dexterity in my hands, drawing was painful and painting impossible, I couldn’t even write my name. I could never accept a life without my art, so I began a therapy using the polymer clay. This time I used the clay in a different way, I learned all about complex caning I became obsessed, while also healing my hands.
I love the idea of creating designs and pictures in a cane where the same pattern runs through from top to bottom. I will quite happily spend days creating one complicated cane from which I create animals, flowers, sculptures and works of art. In every piece the colors are not painted on but are the result of plain colored clay being blended and manipulate to form colorful patterns and designs.
I have sold my work all over the country and internationally. I have been showcased in Polymer Clay magazines and I have an Etsy shop where I sell both my polymer clay and many of my visual artworks including portraits.
