There may be slight variances in the spacing and depth of the lettering. It is intentional and yields a hand crafted, artistic look befitting the vintage silverware. Hammering into the front of the silverware will leave a small mark on the back. This is not a defect, but rather a sign of a well crafted piece — like the knots on the back of embroidery or the stitching on the back of a quilt. The sentiment is stamped letter by letter into the silver with a hammer and anvil. Hand stamping is a very old craft, done with a hammer, anvil and steel stamps. Each letter is hammered individually into the silver. There may be slight variances in the spacing and depth of the lettering. It is intentional and yields a hand crafted, artistic look befitting the vintage silverware. Hammering into the front of the silverware will leave a small mark on the back. This is not a defect, but rather a sign of a well crafted piece — like the knots on the back of embroidery or the stitching on the back of a quilt.
