This is a block I designed to use in a quilt for a friend's niece. She loves turtles and lizards! But I couldn't find any turtle blocks that I really liked. So this is what I came up with in my lunch hour, and it was perfect! This pattern fits a 12" square block, and can be appliqued in any method you prefer (extra seam allowance is not included so if you plan to turn the edges, add 1/4 inch around each piece.)

My husband and I visited some family members while on a road trip, and we got to meet their beautiful new son! He's just the cutest, with these adorable, perfectly pinchable cheeks...but I digress. His room has a wall of hot air balloon decals above his crib, and I took that as the inspiration for this pattern. It's sort of a fun play on an I Spy quilt, with bright scraps making up the balloons. Mine included stars, suns, bubbles, jellybeans, M&M's, swirls, crayons, boats, and of course...balloons! This balloon is even well sized for a 3" charm, if you happen to have a stash of them as I do.
This is also the most intricately I've ever quilted any quilt I've made. I am including a quilting diagram for anyone that chooses to use it. When I'm planning my quilting, I take a long time deciding what I'll do, so this one took even longer than normal. I thought I'd use this as an opportunity to practice, since a 5 month old is hardly going to criticize. I personally love how the balloons are puffy and round. I love this quilt almost as much from the back as from the front!
I had a lot of fun designing this one, and I hope you'll enjoy making it as well!

Well, my boys love to play chess. Yes, even my 8 year old (he's been playing against his brother since he was 5), and he even sometimes wins! So I decided to design this for them. It's nice and big, but still small enough that they could play on the table. And the whole thing is made of fabric and batting, so even if they leave a piece out, it won't feel like I stepped in a bear trap if I find it in the night...Did I mention I designed this for ME too?
This is also ultra convenient because it has a built in pocket to fold the board up into, and a zipper compartment in that pocket to store all the pieces. And it's soft, so it doubles as a little pillow when it's all folded up.
This game can be brought along to the beach, on a road trip, or anyplace you might need a little pillow, or something to do...or both! Get it dirty? No problem, just throw it right in the wash and it's good as new.

string(1458) "As a quilter, you make beautiful art. But what about all those little scraps? Do you save them? Use them for small projects? Stuff things with them? Or just throw them away? The economy has us all trying to be more thrifty. So I've designed this quilt with that in mind.
Each block has corners being cut off. Rather than wasting that cut off fabric, I am sewing them into blocks. I am including directions to make two additional baby quilt tops from these little blocks! The yardage includes borders for these two tops as well. This quilt was originally designed as a mystery quilt, so the steps are presented as "clues". This pattern is presented in only one size, and is written to be easy for beginners, but still interesting enough for seasoned quilters.

It doesn't take long for me to turn lobster red, and I've had more than my fair share of sunburns in my life, especially on my face, shoulders, and the back of my neck.
To avoid raising my risk of skin cancer even more, I decided I needed a big hat. And why not? They're very fashionable these days, and much easier to put on than sunblock (which I'll still wear!) Most of the wide-brimmed hats I see are some kind of woven style, but I wanted a fabric one, so it's washable and keeps out ALL the sun's rays. And this is it!
This hat can be made to work with any occasion. Going to the beach, the zoo, camping? Grab your trusty hat to wear around. Going on a cruise or other vacation? This hat is fabric, so it packs flat. Going to a fancy outdoor summer wedding or party? Make one to match your outfit (heck, make a bag to match too!)

This quilt was designed originally as a mystery quilt as part of a fundraiser, so the steps are presented as "clues". This pattern is presented in 4 different sizes (crib, lap, full/queen, and king) and is written to be easy for beginners, but still interesting enough for seasoned quilters. There are also no pesky seams to match up between blocks, so it's even easier!
The second photo was made by Roberta U. It was her first quilt and it came out amazing! It was made with marines fabric as it was a gift to a marine. Beautiful!
UPDATE: The pattern directions result in a square quilt. The red black and white quilt in the photo is slightly modified. My sample was originally the lap size, but I added one row of blocks (most of which I made from scraps and leftovers), two 1 inch borders (requiring an additional 12" of each fabric) and a 5 inch border (requiring an additional 40" of focus fabric). I absolutely LOVE what it does for this quilt!
