I individually make each clasp by hand, using a leaf mold I made myself. I've added a patina to show the detail in the leaf. This clasp will be the finishing touch to make your necklace a one-of-a-kind work of art! Each toggle is signed by me on the back along with the .925 mark to indicate that it is sterling. This clasp is made from sterling silver metal clay. That's clay made from microscopic bits of metal. I roll the clay out and into the leaf mold. I have to cut each leaf out individually. Then I cut out the circle in the leaf for the clasp. After drying and sanding, the leaf is fired. The high temperatures burn away all the organic binder in the clay, leaving only the metal. The bar portion of the clasp is made from twisted sterling silver wire. Then I solder jump rings onto both parts of the clasp so you can attach it to your design. I finish the clasp by adding the dark-colored patina, which brings out the detail in the leaf. Then it gets tumbled to shine it up and harden the metal. Finally, I put on a coat of jewelers wax to help keep it from tarnishing. Since each clasp is individually handmade, no two will be exactly alike. I use a mold that is my own design. The star has little lines radiating out to each of the five points. I've added a patina to show the detail. This clasp can be the finishing touch that makes your necklace or bracelet a star! The clasp is made from sterling silver metal clay. Metal clay made from microscopic bits of metal mixed with an organic binder to make it in clay form. I roll the clay out and into my custom mold. Each star must be cut out by hand. Then I cut out the circle in the center for the clasp. After drying and sanding, the star is fired. The high temperatures burn away all the organic binder in the clay, leaving only the metal. The bar portion of the clasp is made from thick sterling silver wire. Then I solder jump rings on to both parts of the clasp so you can attach it to your design. I finish the clasp by adding the dark-colored patina, which brings out the detail in the star. Then it gets tumbled to shine it up and harden the metal. Finally, I put on a coat of jewelers wax to help keep it from tarnishing. Since each clasp is individually handmade, no two will be exactly alike. They are a common French style ball and loop design of wires, and on the heavy side so they will be sturdier than many store bought wires. Because they are Argentium, they are more hypo-allergenic and tarnish less than traditional sterling silver. A lot of ear wires are made from 22 gauge wire, which is a little more thin, more likely to bend, and won't hold up as well as these. The 20 gauge is more costly, but heavier and will hold up better. Yet is it not too thick to go through the average ear piercing. Argentium sterling is actually 93.5% silver. Traditional sterling is 92.5% silver. In addition, the other 6.5% has less copper in it and instead has germanium. Argentium is slightly more expensive than regular sterling, but there are two advantages to using it in your jewelry designs: because it has less copper, it doesn't tarnish as easily, and it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction when wearing it. For example, I personally can't wear sterling ear wires -- I'm allergic to them. But I can wear Argentium ear wires. They are extremely hypoallergenic.
