Meet the Maker
Hi, I'm Katherine. Art can be a lifetime learning process as we learn new techniques every day. I love making art because I can express my thoughts and run my imagination. What inspires me to create art is the feeling of accomplishments. I like to create different types of art such as landscape, seascape, encaustic wax paintings, and polymer clay jewelry among others. The paintings are mostly made with acrylic paints; however, I also use watercolors, alcohol inks, pan pastels, oil sticks, and distress oxide sprays. I can run my imagination through mixed media projects. When I work on mixed media, I use ephemera papers, embellishments, clay, resin, dry natural flowers, and artificial flowers. My artwork is done on canvas, canvas panels, wood panels, tags, yupo paper, photo paper, and coasters. Love making art as is always a challenge on each piece that I create.
As a multimedia artist, I have been drawn to create a wide range of art. On some of my artwork, I use modeling paste, dioxide distress sprays, acrylic inks, alcohol inks, gel medium, oil sticks, resin, and pan pastels among others. I enjoy the process of each one of them. I paint and create what I see in my own way. I am interested in expressing basic emotions. My reason for painting is to portray color and form in a nice pleasing way. It is also a way for me to develop my own unique artistic voice. For inspiration, I look at The Modernist tradition, and the concept of emphasizing a material's 'competency', In my case, the flatness of paint and it's saturated pure color. Through these inspirations, I hope that my work in multimedia inspire others.

How it’s Made
Prepared canvas with gesso. Let it dry and gave a second coat. Prepared my red and black paints for the pouring technique. Poured each color on different spots, tilted the canvas a little bit up and down and to the sides to make the colors spread and make the shapes on its own. Then I put some plastic paper on top, let it dry. Once it dried, pulled out the plastic and it gave some texture to the painting. Painted the tree branch, added the butterflies, and the leaves which were made with air dry clay. Sprayed varnish to protect the painting.
